A Somber Word for America

“…it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God…. that the LORD your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. …Blessed shall be the fruit of your body, the produce of your ground and the increase of your herds…. The LORD will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face…. The LORD will open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. You shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow. And the LORD will make you the head and not the tail…. if  you heed the commandments of the LORD your God.

Butif you do not obey the voice of the LORD your God… all these curses will come upon you and overtake you…. The LORD will send on you cursing, confusion, and rebuke in all that you set your hand to do, until you are destroyed and until you perish quickly, because of the wickedness of your doings in which you have forsaken Me…. The LORD will change the rain of your land to powder and dust…” Deuteronomy 28

As It Was…

“As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. “ Matthew 24:37-39

Life went on as usual. For 120 years the work and message of Noah brought ridicule but no repentance. Busy lives, filled with activity; daily routines with schedules and deadlines. With little concern for their soul they lived day by day without a thought for their tomorrow.

 Warnings came, but none believed.

Then one day, without further notice or announcement, Noah, his three sons and their wives went inside the ark – the animals  came and The Lord Himself closed the door.

Suddenly, a streak of lighting broke forth out of the darkness – calamitous heaves began rocking the Earth, the seas and the oceans roared. In rapid succession came sonic booms and catastrophic crashes, the rumble of a great earthquake could be heard from deep within the Earth. The ground began to rise and fall, pitch and roll, the air filled with hot moist vapor. The sound of explosions were heard, fiery meteors and asteroids impacted the Earth as the fountains of the deep broke apart. The ark undisturbed, rocked securely in His tender care.  Illumined by sheets of lightning, the giant boat stood as a monument to HIS Truth.

Jesus [The Ark] makes it quite clear: “As it was in the days before the flood, so shall it also be at the coming of the Son of Man.”

Torrents of water converged on the hillside, crowds gathered, watching in horror as the foolish were swept to their deaths.

Noah and his family did not escape the flood, but they did escape its destruction because of their faith.

“So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.” Matthew 24:44

The Time to Begin is NOW

“And I took the little book out of the angel’s hand and ate it, and it was as sweet as honey in my mouth. But when I had eaten it, my stomach became bitter. And he said to me: “You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, tongues and kings.” Revelation 10:10-11

Each day grows darker. Clouds gather across this vast expanse of land we call home. Each day we are confronted with wars and rumors of wars, ‘men’s hearts failing them for fear’- daily it appears we are on the edge of loosing one more precious freedom. Struggling with feelings of depression, hopelessness, anger and pain, attempting to balance all that is happening in our world –

We are un-prepared to meet our Master –

“Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trials which is to try you, as though some strange thing has come upon you. I Peter 4:12

We are un-prepared to greet our King –

“But rejoice inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’ sufferings; that, when His glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.” I Peter 4:13

Many reach for the good times instead of the good news, the bottle instead of the Bible to cover their scars – wounds left to fester, scab over and fester again – but never to heal. Where is the good news? Where is hope to be found – ABC, CNN, Fox?

GROW UP! Refuse to live on milk; reach for the meat, the pure meat of the Word. Anyone who lives on milk is still an infant and is not acquainted with the teachings of Truth and Righteousness.

Cry out – “Restore us to You, O LORD, renew our days as of old.” Lamentations 5:21

Do not remain as children in your thinking, take your place alongside those who have gone before.

“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.” Hebrews 12:1

…and grow in grace and knowledge of our LORD and Saviour, Jesus the Christ. To Him be glory and honor now and forever. 2 Peter 3:18

HOPE! Here is our hope:

“Beloved, now we are the children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.” I John 3:2-3

Scripture has been so Americanized that we believe God owes us a place in His kingdom – we deserve to receive blessing and honor and the praises of men. The gospel has so long been watered down that whether spoken from pulpit or television it is scarcely recognizable as “good news” by those who would have ears to hear.

We have taken as “gospel” all that we have seen and heard and must face the sad reality – we know neither our God nor His Word.

Who are we but sinners saved by grace through the death, burial and Resurrection of our LORD, Jesus the Christ.

What are we but sinners saved by grace through the death, burial and Resurrection of our LORD, Jesus the Christ.

“Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man – and birds and four-footed beasts and creeping things.” Romans 12:22-23

Look around – see how the incorruptible God has been changed in the twenty-first century to fit the corruptible mindset of modern man. Man-kind no longer worship birds and four-footed beasts or creeping things – but instead worship the works of their hands. While false teachers who preach and teach heresy are leading the world astray, the church seeks experience rather than relationship and many have exchanged the truth for a lie, worshipping and serving created things rather than the Creator.
We must stop putting our selfish interest above all that is God. If man will not worship God as God, God will leave man to his own devises and man will drown in a sea of misplaced loyalties, surrendered freedoms, apostasy and lies.

“IF My people who are called by My Name [He is talking to the church – not the world] will HUMBLE themselves, and PRAY and SEEK My face and TURN from their wicked ways, THEN I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” II Chronicles 7:14

The church has not met the conditions set forth in the II Book of Chronicles, Chapter Seven – but we as individual believers can –

The time to begin is NOW.

“Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?” 2 Corinthians 6:14

“Interfaith Alliance and Human Rights First offer the Faith Shared event as a way to engage faith leaders on the national and community levels in interfaith events intended to highlight respect among people of different faiths. Through photos, video clips and print coverage distributed around the world, we are looking to display visual images that reflect the mutual respect that is shared by so many Muslims, Christians, Jews and other Americans, standing together as a strong counterpoint to the negative images that have dominated the domestic and international news…Faith Shared asks houses of worship across the country to organize events involving clergy reading from each other’s sacred texts. An example would be a Christian Minister, Jewish Rabbi and Muslim Imam participating in a worship service or other event.”

Nothing But The Blood

What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus! What can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus! Nothing can my sin erase – nothing but the blood of Jesus! No good works can I perform, Nothing but the blood of Jesus!

“When I see the blood, I will pass over you.”—Exodus 12:13

GOD’S PEOPLE ARE ALWAYS SAFE, when they are covered by the blood of the Lamb.

Revival as defined by Webster is – “the act of bringing or coming back to life, health or activity. The act of bringing or coming back into use or popularity, ” a meeting at which there is excited preaching for the purpose of ‘stirring’ up religious feeling.”

The teaching of a coming revival has been circulating in some American churches for years – talk of repentance – noticeably absent from such teaching.

Repentance as defined by Webster is – “to feel sorry for having done wrong, to feel regret over something done and change one’s mind.”

“Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing [revival] may come from the presence of the LORD. Acts 3:19

The teaching of a ‘coming revival’ is often predicated on the non-Biblical doctrine of Dominion Theology. Dominion Theology holds that the church will continue to get stronger and stronger until it takes over the world and cleans it up in preparation for the Lord’s return. With authority from the King, we are to reclaim the earth for our Saviour; not just spiritually, but socially, economically and politically; with organizations such as Promise Keepers, The Institute for Christian Economics and the Coalition of Revival leading the way. Those who follow Dominion Theology teach that the mission of the church goes beyond the spiritual transformation of individuals into ‘moral patriotism’. For Jesus the Christ to be pleased with Christians, they must become political and social activist.

We cry out for revival to come to the church of the twenty-first century – an apostate church that is lukewarm, poor, blind, naked, motivated by greed and overcome by the teachings of seducing spirits and doctrines of demons. Un-motivated by godly living, based upon the Word of God and the hope we have in His imminent return, the church of today is consumed by the task of reconstructing society, the work of our hands, embracing all faiths as one and having embarked on a quest for enlightenment, found truth apart from scripture.

We continue to cry out; “Let Your fire fall.” Yet, this is in direct opposition to what the Bible says about the responsibilities of the church and the End Times. Jesus Christ tells us over and over our duties as Christians. The Great Commission found in Acts 1:8, Matthew 28:19 and in Mark 16:15 tells us to –

“Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”

We as Christians are to be salt and light to this dark and dying world, not social activist or moral patriots. Jesus Christ said, “I AM the AMEN.” God made a promise; Jesus sealed that promise with His blood. He is the proof that what God said was and is true. Our lives all too often do not reflect holy fear, neither is there reverence nor respect for our LORD. All too often our lives reflect a desire for the gift – not the Giver. While refusing to look at the sin deep inside ourselves, we have chosen to love the pleasures of this world more than we love God.

Far too many attempt to distort and change the Word of God. Teachings are plentiful that absolute unity is more important than absolute truth, feelings and fellowship more important than faith and facts. We desire to be entertained rather than enlightened, tickled rather than tested, stroked rather than submitted.

We have become addicted to the emotional trappings, psychological maneuverings, and sensual seduction taught from pulpits across America. No longer is Jesus enough. There is no fervent teaching of scripture, no mention of sin or the depravity of man and no repentence.

None cry out – “we have sinned and committed iniquity, we have done wickedly and rebelled…” Daniel 9

“Instead of sound doctrine, believers are feed “junk food” of contemporary psychotherapy, wrapped in Christian terminology that deceives the unwary as well as the elect.” [The Berean Call] The Bible teaches the ‘true’ Church will continue to decline in influence while the apostate church will grow stronger as the end of the age approaches. As evidenced in our society, many are becoming less tolerant of the Christian worldview while more tolerant of the sins which so easily entangle, keeping those who are unaware far from their God.

“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. 2 Timothy 4:3-4

BUT YOU – be watchful in ALL things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your mission.” 2 Timothy 4:5

The Light Overcomes Darkness

Pastor Bill Randles writes:

And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. (John 1:5)

This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. ( 1 John 1:5)

We have been looking at the theological proposition, God is Light and in Him is no darkness at all. The apostle John, in his ministry to those whose faith had been ravaged by false teachers, and gnostic spirituality, would restore to them the original faith, by presenting to them again the doctrine of the “only true God”in a simple but profound way.

The true God is Light. Therefore an encounter with Him, also leads to a devastating vision of ourselves, in all of our sinfulness. We see ourselves in another light, and it is truly awful, in a Holy sense. All things are seen in their true nature in the light of God, the closer we walk with God, the less we like what we see in ourselves.

For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.(Psalm 36:9)

But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.(Ephesians 5:13)

Coming to Christ is nothing less than ‘coming to the Light’ of exposure of all that is false, evil, and unholy in us. This is exactly what keeps people from coming to God, they don’t want to ‘be known’, they shirk from the penetrating eyes of the Infinitely Holy God.

Those who are known to live closest to God are the ones most conscious of indwelling sin, consider this prayer from the journal of the evangelist and author (Pilgrims Progress), John Bunyan;

After my previous repentance, there is again one thing which makes me sad; that is, if I most severely examine the best thing I am now doing, in it I discover sins, new sins mingled in the best thing I do. Therefore now, I cannot help but conclude that no matter how proud of myself and how idealistic I was concerning myself and my work, and even if my former living were without blemish, yet the sins that I commit in a day are enough to send me to hell. In such a deep feeling of sins, he cried out: “Unless He is such a great Savior, He surely cannot save such a great sinner as I.”( from Spiritual Knowledge, by Watchman Nee,Christian Fellowship publishers)

The light of God makes us aware of our depravity, and sinfulness, and constantly causes us to  turn to Christ, who alone is able to “forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness”. This is the mark of someone who has truly known “the only true God”; a profound awareness of personal sin and unworthiness.

For another example of this kind of spirituality, consider the dying prayer of John Knox,

O Lord, have mercy on me, do not judge my innumerable sins; amongst them, may you forgive especially those sins which the world cannot reprove. In my youth, my middle age, and until now, how much conflict have I passed through. I have discovered that within me there is nothing besides falsehood and corruption. O Lord, only You are the Lord who knows the secrets of man’s heart. Please remember that of all the sins which I mentioned, not one of them is pleasing to me. I often grieve over them: they are deeply hated by my inner man. Now I weep sorrowfully for my corruption. I can only rest simply in Your mercy.(Ibid)

There are many thousands of confessed christians sitting in evangelical and charismatic churches who know nothing of this, and would not be able to relate to this kind of spirituality. This is because they have not really met God, who is light.

They have instead been initiated into a kind of pallid, all-american, civic religion, which may have galvanised the moral positions they have already held, but has never brought them into a saving encounter with “the only true God”. To a good many of them ,spirituality is about feeling good about themselves, their families, and politics.

We need to pray that the true vision of God be presented again. O That God would raise up fiery prophets to cry out on his behalf again!  Pray also that this kind of conviction of sin drive men desperately once again to Jesus, the only Saviour and Lord. God is Light and in Him is no darkness at all.

Isaiah and Peter both serve as witnesses to us, that God is light, and that His light is the light of exposure. Their conversion stories also show us another valuable aspect of the Light of God; that is that the very Light that exposes all sin and corruption, will purge it out of us as well, as long as we remain in the Light.

The prophet Isaiah remained in the awful, penetrating light of God’s exposure long enough to behold an amazing sight,

…Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts. Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:  And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.(Isaiah 6:5-7)

The Light of God, which exposed Isaiah’s depravity also revealed to Him the God appointed answer to it. For isn’t the true burning Altar of God, the cross of Jesus? And the coal upon the lips, doesn’t it correspond to the gospel, that “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart God raised him from the dead, you will be saved”?

So we see that the light both exposes, and overcomes all darkness. Beloved, let us remain in the light .

“If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you… If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you… because they do not know Him who sent Me.” John 15:18-21

Only by His wonderful grace can we see from His perspective, rejoice always, and continually give thanks. Only by His life in us can we walk in humility and live together in the victory of His cross. Only by His Spirit in us can we obey His Word and follow His ways. Therefore we can thank Him — not only for the sunny days and happy moments — but even more for those things that show us our need of Him and help us draw closer:

– conviction of sin which exposes our need for His salvation
– weaknesses that show our need for His strength
– difficulties that can keep us close to Jesus
– hardships that keep us hidden in Him each moment
– earthly disappointments that set our hearts on eternity

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16

It’s Just a Matter of Time

“NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim June 2011 as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month. I call upon the people of the United States to eliminate prejudice everywhere it exists, and to celebrate the great diversity of the American people.” []

As a nation promotes sin, it sows corruption and its own destruction. God is not mocked and in the end a nation that promotes sin like sodomy will be destroyed. The terribleness of this sin will lead to the nations destruction.

Galatians 6 “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.  For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.”

The root cause is spiritual, and it will take a spiritual revival to put the nation back on the right course with God. It will take millions of people repenting of their sinful lifestyles which are destroying the country and turning to the Lord Jesus and living according to God’s word.   Without this –

It is just a matter of time. May the LORD God of Israel bless and protect you.
